What’s one of your favorite Thanksgiving memories?

What’s one of your favorite Thanksgiving memories?

I was thinking about this today, thinking about this Thanksgiving and remembering a very special Thanksgiving when I was young. It’s still one of my favorite memories and I am fortunate to have lots of them.

I think I was around 5 years old and it was the night before Thanksgiving.

A big truck pulled up to our house and seven or so of my dad’s friends all came into our dining room. They started to bring in boxes of food, veggies, turkeys, and cans and all sorts of stuff was piled up everywhere. Then, my dad pulled out a long list and all the men started filling the boxes from this list. I knew some of the men, but not all of them.

Of course I asked what it was all about.

My dad told me this was a list from the priests and ministers and rabbi from our town of all the people who may not have enough money to have a good Thanksgiving dinner. So he and his friends got donations of food and money from stores and people to fill these boxes so everyone could have a great Thanksgiving.

I asked to help and I got to count out the potatoes and put them in the right boxes. They kept talking and laughing and working until there were piles of boxes filled with food in the living room and dining room.

Once the boxes were packed they took out a map and put it on the table. My dad explained that they were figuring out the best roads to take so they could deliver everything.

When I asked him who the families were, he smiled and said, “We don’t know. We ask the priests and rabbi not to give us their names, just their addresses so they won’t feel funny or embarrassed that they don’t have enough food this year.

I know my eye must have been wide open at this point. Then he said, “We drive to their house, put the food on the porch or front step. Then we ring the bell and drive away.”

I was in awe. I didn’t know what to say, but I was so proud of him.

They took all of the boxes to the truck and came back in to say goodbye.
Then I looked at all the men in my house and saw they had hats on. I’d never seen those hats before and so I asked one of the men what they were.

He said, “We are veterans and these are the hats we wore when we fought for our country.”

I looked again and all the men smiled. They wore their hats, stood taller and looked at me. And my dad said, “You know, we all just really like to help.”

Then they left laughing and joking and got into the truck and drove away.

I’m tearing up right now, remembering that band of brothers in my house making Thanksgiving for people they would never really know.

Thank you Dad, and all your friends for a simple memory that still moves and inspires me today!

What’s one of your favorite Thanksgiving memories?

Money Karma Mode – Random Acts of Mindness

BLOG-Random Acts of Mindness
There’s always some fun and interesting things in travel. And I always like great surprises. I had a really quick trip to LA the other day, seeing a variety of different clients and taking care of business. The weather was gorgeous the timing was perfect on every single aspect of my trip. And even though there were so many things to do everything got done in perfect timing.

Peter and I were walking through LAX getting ready to go on our flight, when I saw this woman who worked at the airport. This beautiful Hispanic older woman looked so tired and put upon. She was dragging too huge bins of garbage and since we were traveling on an evening flight, she looked like she had been working double shift.

I told Peter I’d be right back, and scooted over to the woman. I reached into my pocket and grabbed a couple of bills. Then I tapped her on the shoulder.

“Can I give you something to make you smile?” I asked her.

Of course she looked at me like I was a little crazy. So, I repeated myself and I could see the tired worried look on her face. I smiled at her and gave her the couple of bills that were in my hand. She looked at the money. Then she looked up in my face and started to smile. The she began laughing.

I said, “Thank you.” She said, “Thank you.” And I went on my way.

It was a blast to be able to shift someone’s energy and change their day just like that. What tickles me is that it was a flash in my mind. I didn’t plan it. It’s not a typical routine for me. This was a random act of “mindness.” It was completely out of the ordinary. I was just passing by saw her face and knew she needed a treat.

That’s one bonus I got and that she got from me working on my Heal Your Money Karma event. Shifting energy of money, I could do something really simple and make someone smile and share wealth-being.

What are things you’ve done, what are at random acts of mindness that you’ve done that you know has benefited someone else?

It snowed on my lilacs!

snow on my lilacs

It snowed on my lilacs!
I woke up this morning to find snow. It’s spring. My lilacs are in full, fragrant bloom. AND there is snow all over them. Snow ruins the lilac flowers. Yep! Freezes them to a lovely purple mush. No rich uplifting fragrance that fills the air with wonder. No clusters of gorgeous purple beauty shining in the sun. It’s just limp, flopping, debilitated flowers frozen by the snow. There’s nothing I can do to revive them, make them bloom or perk them up.

I am always excited about spring.
Seeing the new blooms, the fresh leaves and the blossoms on the trees inspires me completely. And lilacs are one of my favorites. So, when I went out two days ago and snapped some pics of the blooms, (see photo below) I expected to go out today, when there were more, and strategically cut some for vases in my home. I imagined the fragrance and beauty filling my house with joy. Continue reading

APPRECIATING YOUR BEING

Appreciation is an expression of admiration, approval or gratitude. When you appreciate something or someone, you place value upon it. You understand its worth or quality or significance and place it in high regard. You can look outside yourself and recognize the beauty, contribution or excellence of someone or something. You can look within yourself and value a feeling, a gift or a greater truth.

Appreciation occurs in the present moment
Appreciation is a wave emanating in the present. Whether you appreciate aspects of your past or are looking forward into the future with appreciation for new opportunities, the wave of high vibrations coming from appreciation is in the now. It’s a gift that happens in the present moment. When you are appreciating, you give yourself a gift of moments of admiration, recognition and gratitude. Appreciation is a gift you give yourself that expands your heart in soft pleasure. By appreciating something or someone, you open to the gifts of life. You recognize and understand beauty, wisdom, delight, value and caring. Appreciation fills your moment with those gifts. It’s uplifting, heart-warming, and filled with wonder.

THE APPRECIATION MEDITATION

I created this meditation, to awaken and expand feelings of appreciation in life and for life. As you connect with what you do appreciate, you can increase it. As you extend appreciation to others, you expand the feelings of joy and well-being. Continue reading

Well, she did it. She succeeded while making us laugh, laughing at herself and challenging us to laugh at ourselves! She is unforgettable. Irreverent, challenging, brilliant, quick and ready for the joke that will rip someone apart and still make you laugh. Continue reading
